About this tool

How does the lookup work?

It parses the number against Google's libphonenumber dataset: the same library most apps use to validate phone input. Everything runs in your browser; the number is never sent to a server.

Can it tell if a number is VoIP?

Partially. Numbering plans in many countries reserve distinct ranges for VoIP, mobile, and landline, and the tool reports the type when the range is distinct. Some countries mix ranges, in which case the type shows as ambiguous.

Why do services reject VoIP numbers?

Because VoIP numbers are cheap to obtain in bulk, many platforms treat them as a spam signal and block them for SMS verification. Numbers from real mobile carrier ranges pass those checks, which is what MarioSMS rents.

What is E.164 format?

The international standard for writing phone numbers: a plus sign, the country code, then the number, with no spaces (for example +14155552671). APIs and databases almost always want E.164.
