TikTok Verification Code Not Received

Updated · MarioSMS team

When TikTok is not sending a verification code, one of five things is usually happening: TikTok has paused codes after too many requests, the code went to email instead of SMS, the country code is wrong, the number range is refused, or your carrier is filtering TikTok’s texts. Check them in that order. Most are fixed on your own phone, and only two of them call for a different number.

Where did TikTok send the code?

Look here first, because TikTok does not always use SMS.

  • Email sign-ups and logins get the six-digit code by email. Check spam and any Promotions or Updates tab.
  • Accounts with 2-step verification on may ask for the method you set up there, such as email, instead of a text.
  • A masked number on the screen (for example, ending in 42) that you do not recognise means the account is tied to a different number than the one on your phone.

If the code is in your inbox, enter it there.

TikTok does not publish how long the attempt limit lasts. Each extra tap on Resend during the lockout can restart it, so the fastest path is to stop and come back later.

Fix it in this order

  1. Check the number field. TikTok has a separate country picker. A UK number entered as 07700 900123 with +44 selected fails, because the 0 has to go.
  2. Open the filtered folders. On iPhone, turn off Filter Unknown Senders or open the Unknown Senders list. On Android, open Spam and blocked in the Messages app. TikTok texts come from short codes or a sender ID, which phones often file away.
  3. Prove your line takes SMS. Ask someone to text you. If that fails too, restart the phone and check that you have signal.
  4. Stop pressing Resend. Two requests a few minutes apart is enough. More requests are what trigger the lockout.
  5. Switch to email if the sign-up or login screen offers it. Email uses a separate path from your carrier.
  6. Ask your carrier about business texts. Some prepaid plans and smaller carriers block short-code and A2P SMS by default. Asking them to allow it takes one call.
  7. Wait until you are home if you are roaming. Roaming SIMs lose more business texts than home networks do.

How a code can exist and still never reach your phone is explained in The SMS Code Did Not Arrive. What Now?

Is your number the problem?

TikTok refuses many internet phone numbers. Numbers from apps like Google Voice or TextNow, and the shared numbers on free SMS sites, are often turned away before a code is sent, or the code is never delivered. A non-VoIP number from a real mobile carrier is what TikTok expects.

A number that already verified another TikTok account can also be turned away. TikTok remembers the numbers it has verified.

When a new number will not help

If you are locked out of an existing TikTok account, TikTok sends the code to the number already on that account. A different number cannot receive it, however it was obtained. Use the email on the account if there is one, or TikTok’s account recovery from the login screen.

When a rented number is the right fix

A rented number solves the problem in three cases:

  • You are creating a new account and your own number is refused or filtered.
  • Your number is already linked to another TikTok account, such as your personal one, and you need a separate brand or creator account.
  • You are still signed in and want to replace the number on file with one that receives codes reliably.

MarioSMS rents numbers from real mobile ranges for TikTok verification. The code lands in your dashboard, usually within a minute, and if nothing arrives the activation cancels and the full price returns to your balance. The sign-up steps are in How to Verify TikTok Without Your Phone Number.

Separate accounts for a brand, a market or app testing are fine. Running accounts to inflate views or to return after a ban is not, under both TikTok’s rules and our acceptable use policy.
