How to Verify Facebook Without Your Phone Number

Updated · MarioSMS team

You can start a Facebook account with only an email, but most new accounts are asked for a phone number soon after. The prompt appears at sign-up, after a security check, or the first time you try something Facebook watches closely, such as selling on Marketplace or creating a Page. You cannot skip it for long, but the number does not have to be yours. A rented number answers the prompt, the code arrives in your MarioSMS dashboard, and your personal line stays off the profile.

When does Facebook ask for a phone number?

The wording of the prompt tells you why Facebook wants the number and what will satisfy it.

What you seeUsual triggerWhat answers it
“Add your mobile number” at sign-upA new account from a browser or device Facebook does not knowAny real mobile number that can receive SMS
“Confirm your account” with an SMS codeA security check soon after sign-upThe six-digit code, prefixed FB-, sent by text
“We need to confirm it’s you” before Marketplace or a PageAn action Facebook treats as higher riskA confirmed phone number on the account
A request for a video selfie or a photo of IDAn identity checkOnly the person, never a phone number

The first three are phone prompts and a rented number handles them. The last one is an identity check, and no number changes the outcome.

How to verify Facebook with a rented number

  1. Sign up with your email at facebook.com or in the app, so the email becomes the account’s main contact.
  2. When the phone prompt appears, rent a number in the MarioSMS app. Pick the service Facebook and a country with stock, ideally the country you will use the account from.
  3. Enter the number in Facebook’s form. Facebook refuses VoIP ranges and the shared numbers on free SMS sites, so the number has to come from a real mobile range, which is what a non-VoIP number means.
  4. Read the code in your dashboard, usually inside a minute, and type it in. If nothing arrives, the activation cancels at the end of its window and the full price returns to your balance.
  5. Fill in the profile with a name, a photo and a few details before you add friends or post. A new account that acts fast is the one most likely to be checked again.

If the code itself never shows up, Facebook verification code not received walks through the causes in order.

How do you stop the account depending on that number?

The rented number belongs to you for one activation window, so set up recovery that you control before you move on.

  1. Confirm your email under Accounts Center, Personal details, Contact info.
  2. Turn on two-factor authentication with an authenticator app under Accounts Center, Password and security. Facebook then asks the app for codes and stops relying on SMS.
  3. Remove the rented number from Contact info once the email and the app are in place.
  4. Hide phone lookup under Settings, How people find and contact you, so nobody can find the profile by a number.

An account set up this way never needs the rented number again, even after it returns to the pool.

Can you create a Facebook account without a phone number or an email?

No. Facebook needs one of the two to create an account. Email is accepted at sign-up, and the phone request usually follows later, which is where the rented number comes in.

What does Facebook allow for a second profile?

Meta’s terms allow one personal profile per person, and a second profile that pretends to be someone else gets removed whichever number verified it. The legitimate options cover most reasons people want a second account.

  • Pages and a business portfolio are run from your own profile, so managing a shop or a client’s Page does not need a second personal account.
  • Additional profiles sit inside one account, for a hobby, a community or a work identity, each with its own feed and audience.
  • A separate account under a company’s control, verified with a number the company holds, keeps a business presence apart from any one employee.

Facebook and Instagram share Accounts Center. If the same number confirms both, Facebook offers to link them, so decline that if you want them kept apart. The Instagram guide covers the same setup on that side.

What a rented number cannot do

  • It cannot pass an ID check. When Facebook asks for a video selfie or a document, only the account holder can answer it.
  • It cannot recover an existing account. Facebook sends recovery codes to the number already on the account, and a new number does not receive them.
  • It cannot make a rule-breaking account acceptable. Fake identities, bought engagement and accounts made to return after a ban are removed by Meta and are outside our acceptable use policy.

For a page manager, a business account or a privacy-minded second profile, rent a number for Facebook, finish the setup above on the same day, and the account stays yours without your personal line attached.
