How to Verify Snapchat Without Your Phone Number
You can create a Snapchat account with an email address instead of a phone number, but Snapchat often asks for a number anyway. It may ask during signup on some devices, when it flags a new account for review, or before it unlocks recovery and some settings. When that prompt appears, a rented mobile number receives Snapchat’s code, you type it in, and your personal number never joins the account.
Can you make a Snapchat account without a phone number?
Yes, at the start. The signup screen offers a phone number by default, with an option to sign up with email instead. Choose email and Snapchat creates the account against that address.
You cannot skip both, though. An account needs an email or a phone number to exist. Snapchat falls back on the phone when it wants more certainty that a real person is behind the account.
These are the usual moments the phone prompt appears on an email account:
| When Snapchat asks | What is behind it | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Right at signup, with no email option shown | Some app versions and regions lead with phone signup | Look for the email option, or verify with a rented number |
| Soon after signup, with the account limited | Snapchat flagged the new account for a check | Verify by SMS to lift the limit |
| When you set up recovery or two-factor | Snapchat wants a second way to reach you | Use an authenticator app and an email instead, where offered |
| After logging in from a new device | A security check on an unfamiliar login | Enter the code sent to the number on the account |
How to verify Snapchat with a rented number
- Start the signup in the Snapchat app and choose the email option if it is offered, so email stays the account’s main contact.
- When the phone prompt appears, rent a number in the MarioSMS app with service Snapchat and any country that has stock.
- Enter the rented number in international format, with the country chosen from Snapchat’s list and no leading zero.
- Read the code in your MarioSMS dashboard, usually within a minute, and type it into Snapchat.
- Finish the profile with a display name and a photo. A complete profile draws fewer follow-up checks than an empty one.
If no code arrives, the activation is refunded automatically. Do not keep tapping resend, since repeated requests trigger Snapchat’s “too many attempts” lock. Snapchat also offers to call with the code, but a rented number receives text messages only, so the voice call option will not reach it. The Snapchat code troubleshooting guide covers the lock and the other reasons a code goes missing.
Why keep your own number off Snapchat?
Snapchat uses phone numbers to connect people. If your personal number is on the account, people who have it saved in their contacts can be shown your profile as a suggested friend, and the app invites you to sync your own contacts in return.
That is a problem for an account you want kept apart from your private life, such as a creator profile, a business account, or a test account for checking your app’s Snapchat login. Your real number would link it to everyone in your phone book.
You can limit this in settings by turning off the option that lets others find you by your number and skipping contact sync. With a rented number, the number on the account does not lead back to you in the first place.
What to set up after the code
The rented number covers the moment of verification. The account should not depend on it afterwards.
- Confirm your email. Snapchat sends a link to the address you signed up with. A confirmed email is the main way back in if you lose your password.
- Turn on two-factor with an authenticator app. Snapchat supports two-factor authentication through an authenticator app, which generates codes on your own device with no SMS involved.
- Save the recovery code Snapchat shows when you enable two-factor. It lets you sign in if you lose the device with the authenticator on it.
What a rented number will not do
It will not get you back into an existing account. If Snapchat sends a login code to a number already on the account, that number has to receive it, and a different number cannot. Use your recovery code, the email reset, or Snapchat Support’s login help page instead.
It also does not change what Snapchat allows. A separate creator or business account, privacy for an adult user, and QA testing are ordinary reasons to verify with a rented number. Accounts made to impersonate someone, to spam, or to return after a ban break Snapchat’s rules and our acceptable use policy, and Snapchat removes them regardless of how they were verified.
The same approach works on other apps that ask for a number at signup. The Instagram version of this guide walks through it there. For Snapchat, rent a number for Snapchat when the prompt appears and move the account onto your email and an authenticator app the same day.
