Bumble signs you up with a phone number or through Apple or Facebook, and the phone route sends a code by SMS. The number never appears on your profile. It does sit on the account as its sign-in, and a dating account is exactly where many people would rather not store their everyday number. A rented number handles the code and keeps that line out of it.

The bigger privacy risk on dating apps comes later, when a conversation moves off the app. Bumble has in-app voice and video calls so you do not have to give a match your number at all. Use them until you have met, and your personal number stays with the people who already have it.

What Bumble checks at sign-up

Bumble sends a short code to the number you enter and signs you in once it is typed. It also asks new users to verify their photos by copying a pose in a selfie, which a person reviews or an automated check compares. Photo verification is about the face on the profile, and the phone number plays no part in it.

Numbers from free SMS sites and internet telephony apps are often refused or never receive the code, because the same numbers have opened many accounts before. The numbers rented here are real mobile ranges, allocated to you alone for the window.

Signing back in later

Bumble uses the phone number as the login, so signing in on a new phone asks for a new code to the same number. Plan for it. Either link the account to Apple or Facebook sign-in inside the app while you still have access, or expect to change the phone number in settings before the rented one is gone.

Deleting and reinstalling the app on the same phone usually keeps the session, but do not rely on that for an account you care about.

What Bumble allows

Bumble's community guidelines require a real person over 18, using their own photos, with one profile. A separate number does not make a second profile acceptable, and Bumble removes fake or duplicate profiles regardless of how they signed up. Our acceptable use policy says the same.

The use that fits is simple. One genuine profile, signed up on a number that is not your personal one. The same approach works on Hinge and Tinder, which also sign in by phone.
