French mobile numbers begin with 06 or 07, and +33 6 or +33 7 from abroad. French services that expect French customers often check for those two prefixes and nothing else. A rented French number fits that check for one confirmation code, without a French SIM, which French carriers sell only against ID.
Four networks carry French mobiles: Orange, SFR, Bouygues Telecom and Free. A number from any of them reads as French mobile to the service looking it up. That lookup is what decides whether the code is sent at all.
Entering a French number
A French mobile number is ten digits at home, written in pairs: 06 12 34 56 78. Internationally the 0 is dropped, giving +33 6 12 34 56 78. Forms with a +33 picker want the nine digits after the 0. Forms with a plain field usually take the full +33 version, spaces or none.
Numbers starting 01 to 05 are geographic landlines and 09 is internet telephony. Most services will not text them, so a French number that is not 06 or 07 is a common reason a code never arrives.
When a French number is the right choice
French classifieds, delivery and ride apps that serve French customers are the usual reason. So is a business account on a French marketplace, kept apart from a personal account elsewhere in Europe. Developers use French numbers to see how a sign-up flow reads in French, including the SMS text itself, which many services localise by number.
Belgium, Switzerland and Luxembourg have their own codes, and a French number will not pass a Belgian or Swiss check. Use a Belgian or Swiss number for those.
After verification
The number is yours for the activation window and then returns to the pool. Add a recovery email and, where offered, an authenticator app before the window ends. The account then does not depend on the number.
If the code does not arrive in the window, the activation cancels itself and the full price goes back to your balance.
Which prefixes are French mobile numbers?
06 and 07 at home, +33 6 and +33 7 from abroad. Numbers starting 01 to 05 or 09 are landlines or internet lines and usually cannot receive codes.
Do I keep the 0 after +33?
No. 06 12 34 56 78 becomes +33 6 12 34 56 78.
Will a French number work for a Belgian service?
Usually not. Belgian services check for +32. Pick a Belgian number for those.
What if the code never lands?
The activation cancels at the end of the window and the full price returns to your balance.
