Openai SMS VERIFICATION Receive the Openai code on a rented number.

A real number, allocated to you for one Openai verification. Your personal phone stays out of it.

From $0.057 · in stock in 26 countries right now

OpenAI has asked for a phone number at different points over the years. For a long stretch every new ChatGPT account needed one, and today many sign-ups finish with only an email, while the API platform and some account actions can still ask for a number before they continue. When the prompt appears, a rented number takes the code without putting a personal line on an account used for work experiments.

OpenAI limits how many accounts one number can verify, and it refuses VoIP numbers at that step. The numbers here come from real mobile carrier ranges and are used for one activation, which suits the check. A number changes nothing about which countries OpenAI serves, and its supported-countries list still applies to where you use the service.

Where the phone step appears

OpenAI shows the phone prompt after the email is confirmed, when it wants more assurance that a real person is behind the account. On the API platform the prompt can appear before the first key is created or before free credits are granted. Sign-in with Google, Microsoft or Apple sometimes skips the step, since those providers already verified the person.

The code arrives by SMS, sometimes with a WhatsApp option. A rented number receives SMS, so choose that route. If the code does not come within the window, the activation refunds, and a number from another country can be tried.

Accounts for work, testing and teams

Developers often keep an API account for a client project apart from their personal ChatGPT account, so usage and billing stay separate. QA engineers test sign-up and onboarding flows of products built on OpenAI. Teams can instead use OpenAI's organization and project features, which let several people share billing without each creating a new account.

OpenAI's usage policies apply per person and per organization. Creating accounts to get around a suspension or rate limits breaks those policies, and OpenAI links accounts by payment details and usage patterns as well as phone numbers. Read our acceptable use policy too.

Keeping the account after the activation ends

Turn on multi-factor authentication in the account security settings, using an authenticator app. OpenAI then asks for the app code at sign-in, and the rented number plays no further part in logging in.

Billing, API keys and organization membership are all tied to the account and its email. If OpenAI asks for a phone again in the future, for example after a policy change, rent a number at that point. Prices per country are on the pricing page.

How to verify Openai without your own number

  1. Pick Openai and a country

Choose Openai in the app, then any country with live stock. Prices are shown before you commit.

  2. Use the number we allocate

Paste the number into the Openai sign-up form and request the code.

  3. Read the code in your dashboard

The SMS appears the moment it arrives, usually well under a minute. If nothing lands, the charge reverses automatically.

Does ChatGPT still require a phone number?

Not always. OpenAI has changed this over time. Many sign-ups now finish with an email, while the API platform and some account actions can still ask for a number.

Why did OpenAI reject a number?

OpenAI refuses VoIP numbers and numbers that have already verified several accounts. The numbers here are real mobile ranges used for one activation.

Does a foreign number let me use OpenAI from an unsupported country?

No. OpenAI's supported-countries rules apply to where you use the service, whatever number verified the account.

Do I need the number to sign in later?

Turn on multi-factor authentication with an authenticator app, and sign-in uses the app. The rented number is not needed again.
