Shopee runs a separate store in each market, from Malaysia and Indonesia to the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore, and each store expects a local phone number. Registration and login happen by one-time code, and the number becomes the account's main identity. A seller opening a store in a second market, or a team testing checkout in a country they are not in, needs a number from that country. Shopee also runs a store in Brazil, which expects a +55 number.

Numbers here come from real mobile ranges in each country, so a Malaysian number registers on Shopee Malaysia and an Indonesian number on Shopee Indonesia. The store rejects a number whose country code does not match it.

How Shopee uses the number

Shopee lets you log in with the phone number and a code, with no password needed. That makes the number more than a signup checkpoint. Whoever holds it can request a login code. Right after registration, set a password under My Account, Account and Security, and link an email, so the account has a way in that does not depend on the phone. Shopee may send a new code when you change the phone, email or bank details on the profile, so make those changes while you still hold the rented number.

Some Shopee stores offer the code by WhatsApp as well as SMS. A rented number receives SMS, so pick the SMS option when the app offers a choice.

Sellers across markets

Shopee's cross-border programme lets a seller list in several markets, and a seller who runs a local shop in each country usually registers a separate account there. A Philippine number for Shopee Philippines and a Malaysian one for Shopee Malaysia keeps each shop tied to its own market. Each shop then has its own listings, prices in the local currency, and customer chats in the local language.

Payouts are a separate step. Shopee checks the seller's identity and bank details before releasing money, and a phone number does not stand in for that. The number gets the account created. The shop still needs a real business behind it.

Vouchers and where Shopee draws the line

New-user vouchers and free shipping offers are aimed at one person each. Shopee's terms treat several accounts used to claim the same promotion as abuse, and it cancels orders and suspends accounts it links by device, address and payment method.

Testing, separate buyer and seller accounts, and accounts for family members are fine. Check prices per country before choosing a market, since stock and cost differ. A buyer account kept apart from a seller account also keeps personal purchases out of the shop's order records.
