Vinted asks for a phone number when an account starts selling, and it uses SMS codes to confirm sign-ins from new devices. Every message between buyer and seller goes through the app, so the number exists for Vinted's own checks. That makes a rented number a reasonable way to keep a personal line off a marketplace where you trade with strangers.
Vinted accounts belong to a country site, such as vinted.co.uk, vinted.fr or vinted.pl, and the site decides the currency, the shipping options and the payout rules. A number from the same country fits the account best. A seller in Manchester would pick a UK number, and one in Lyon a French number.
How Vinted's checks run
Signup needs only an email or a social login. The phone step comes when you list your first item, request a payout, or sign in on a phone Vinted has not seen. Vinted sends a code by SMS and the account continues once it is entered. Some sign-in checks go to the email address instead, which is one more reason to keep that address current.
Vinted refuses many VoIP numbers and numbers from free SMS sites, which have already verified other accounts. The numbers rented here come from real mobile carrier ranges and belong to your activation alone.
What Vinted's terms allow
Vinted's terms let each member hold one account. Opening a second one to relist banned items, to leave yourself reviews, or to return after a suspension breaks those terms, and Vinted links accounts through payment details, shipping addresses and device data as well as phone numbers.
The reasons that fit are ordinary. A seller who moved from Poland to France and needs an account on the French site. A household member with their own wardrobe to sell. A reseller testing how listings look to a buyer before going live. For these, a rented number covers the phone step and nothing more.
Payouts and the number
Money from sales lands in the Vinted balance, and withdrawing it to a bank requires identity details that Vinted checks separately. A phone number is only one piece of that, and it does not replace the identity check.
Before the activation window ends, confirm the email on the account and turn on any email-based login confirmation. If Vinted later wants a code by SMS on a new device, rent a number in the same country at that point.
How to verify Vinted without your own number
-
Pick Vinted and a country
Choose Vinted in the app, then any country with live stock. Prices are shown before you commit.
-
Use the number we allocate
Paste the number into the Vinted sign-up form and request the code.
-
Read the code in your dashboard
The SMS appears the moment it arrives, usually well under a minute. If nothing lands, the charge reverses automatically.
Why does Vinted want my number only when I start selling?
Selling, payouts and sign-ins from new devices are the moments Vinted adds a phone check. Browsing and buying often work without one.
Can I use a number from a different country than my Vinted site?
Sometimes, but a number from the same country fits the account best, since the site sets currency, shipping and payout rules.
Can I open a second Vinted account?
Vinted's terms allow one account per member. It links accounts by payment, address and device, so a new number does not create a separate identity.
What if the SMS never lands?
The activation cancels at the end of the window and the full price returns to your balance.
