Egyptian mobile numbers are unusually easy to read. The prefix tells you which network issued the line: 010 for Vodafone, 011 for e& (formerly Etisalat Misr), 012 for Orange and 015 for WE, the mobile arm of Telecom Egypt. Egyptian SIMs are registered to a national ID or passport. A rented Egyptian number from one of those ranges receives a code for one sign-up without a local SIM.

Services checking an Egyptian number look for one of the four mobile prefixes. Landlines in Cairo start 02 and cannot receive a verification text, so the prefix is the first thing to check if a code never arrives on a number someone already has.

Eleven digits at home, ten after +20

At home an Egyptian mobile is eleven digits, such as 010 1234 5678. Internationally the 0 is dropped, giving +20 10 1234 5678. Forms with a +20 picker want the ten digits starting 10, 11, 12 or 15. Typing both +20 and the 0 is the most common reason an Egyptian number is rejected.

Egypt allows numbers to move between networks, so a prefix shows the network the line started on. For a verification check that does not matter, since all four read as Egyptian mobile.

What Egyptian numbers are used for

Delivery and ride apps local to Egypt and the wider region are frequent reasons, including Talabat and Careem. Businesses selling to Egyptian customers register WhatsApp on a +20 number, because that is how Egyptian customers expect to reach a shop. Developers test Arabic sign-up flows and right-to-left SMS text on a real Egyptian line.

Egyptian banks and mobile wallets check the national ID behind the line. Rented numbers are for apps, messengers and marketplaces.

After verification

The rented number is yours for the activation window. Add a recovery email and a two-step PIN or authenticator app before it ends, so the account does not depend on the number.

If the code does not arrive in time, the activation cancels and the full price returns to your balance.
