Mexico simplified its numbering in 2019. The 044 and 045 mobile prefixes and the 01 long-distance prefix went away, and every number became ten digits, landline or mobile. The old +52 1 form for dialling mobiles from abroad was dropped too. Forms built before that change still trip on it, and the section below shows the format they accept.
Telcel carries most Mexican mobiles, with AT&T México and Movistar behind it and budget brands such as Walmart's Bait running on shared networks. The numbers rented here come from real mobile ranges on those networks, which is what a Mexican service checks before sending the code.
Ten digits, and no 1 after +52
A Mexican number starts with a two or three-digit area code and totals ten digits. Mexico City is 55, Guadalajara 33 and Monterrey 81. From abroad the number reads +52 55 1234 5678. Leave out the 1 that older guides put after +52, since current networks no longer expect it.
The format no longer tells mobile from landline, because both are ten digits with an area code. Services find out with a carrier lookup, and a rented number comes back as mobile.
Where Mexican numbers get used
Ticket sites are one of the busiest cases. Ticketmaster runs presales in Mexico and confirms accounts by SMS to a Mexican number. Read its limits before creating accounts, since ticket caps apply per person and extra accounts to buy past them break its terms. Shopping apps such as Walmart México, ride apps such as DiDi, and AI tools that ask for a phone at sign-up are the other common reasons.
Businesses selling to Mexican customers also put WhatsApp on a local number, because customers expect to message a +52 business. Developers test Spanish sign-up flows on a real Mexican line.
What to set up before the number returns
The number stays yours for the activation window. Add a recovery email before it ends and turn on an authenticator app wherever the service offers one. Mexican banks and payment apps run their own identity checks, so keep those on your own number.
If a code does not arrive, the activation refunds on its own. The refund policy covers the details.
Do I need to add 1 after +52 for a mobile?
No. Mexico dropped that in 2019. Enter +52 and the ten digits.
Can a form tell whether a Mexican number is mobile?
Not from the format, since mobiles and landlines are both ten digits. Services use a carrier lookup, and these numbers come back as mobile.
Is it fine to open several Ticketmaster accounts?
Ticket limits apply per person, and using extra accounts to buy past them breaks Ticketmaster's terms. One account per person is the safe rule.
What if no code arrives?
The activation cancels at the end of the window and the full price returns to your balance.
