LINE is Thailand's default messenger. People use it to chat, order food and follow shops, and a Thai LINE account is tied to a phone number. A rented Thai number handles the code when a business opens a LINE account for Thai customers or a developer tests a Thai sign-up. Thai SIMs are registered to a passport or Thai ID when they are sold, and a rented number needs neither.

Thai mobile numbers are ten digits beginning 06, 08 or 09. AIS and True Corporation run the networks, and True still sells under the dtac brand after the two companies merged in 2023. The numbers rented here are real ranges on those networks.

From 081 to +66 81

At home a Thai mobile number looks like 081 234 5678. From abroad the 0 is dropped, giving +66 81 234 5678. Bangkok landlines start 02 and do not receive verification texts.

Forms with a +66 picker want the nine digits after the 0. Entering both +66 and the 0 is the usual reason a Thai form refuses a number that is otherwise fine.

LINE and the apps around it

LINE sends a code by SMS to register, and many Thai businesses run an official LINE account that customers add to message the shop. Running the business side from its own number keeps it separate from the owner's personal LINE.

Google, WhatsApp and Telegram all accept Thai numbers for registration. Teams that work with Thai partners often keep a Thai account on each, so local contacts see a +66 number they recognise.

Travellers and the SIM counter

Visitors can buy a tourist SIM at the airport with a passport, and many do. A rented number covers a different moment, before the trip or after it, when a Thai app wants a code and there is no Thai SIM in the phone.

Thai banking apps and PromptPay confirm who you are through a bank account and an ID check, which a number does not replace. Keep a rented number to messaging, shopping and testing. If no code lands, the activation refunds.
