Kazakhstan shares the +7 country code with Russia, and the two are told apart by what comes next. Kazakh mobile numbers continue with a 7, as in +7 701 or +7 747. Russian mobiles continue with a 9. A service that wants a Kazakh customer reads that digit, so a Russian number will not do, and a rented Kazakh number from a real 7xx range will.

The main networks are Kcell with its activ brand, Beeline Kazakhstan, and Tele2 and Altel, which operate together. SIM cards in Kazakhstan are registered to the owner's individual identification number, the IIN, so getting a local SIM means showing documents. A rented number covers one code without that.

A Kazakh mobile number is ten digits after +7, starting with a three-digit operator code such as 701, 702, 705, 707, 747 or 777. Inside Kazakhstan people often dial it with a leading 8 instead of +7, so 8 701 123 4567 and +7 701 123 4567 are the same line. Almaty landlines start 727 and Astana landlines 7172, so a 7 alone does not mean mobile. Operator codes in the 70x and 77x ranges do.

Classifieds and delivery apps that serve Kazakhstan, including OLX and Yandex services such as Yandex Go, ask for a local number. Telegram and WhatsApp accounts set up for customers in Kazakhstan are another common reason, since both are the default way to reach a business there.

Kazakh banks and super-apps with payments check identity against the IIN, and a rented number does not supply one. Use rented numbers for marketplaces, messengers and testing.
