Serbian mobile numbers begin with 06 inside the country and +381 6 from anywhere else. Three networks carry them, mts, Yettel and A1. A rented Serbian number gives an app or marketplace the local mobile it asks for, for one confirmation code, without buying a Serbian SIM.
Serbian services that serve local customers often expect +381, and a number from a neighbouring country will not pass that check. That catches businesses selling into Serbia, and people from Serbia living abroad who still use Serbian apps.
Serbian number format, network by network
A Serbian mobile number is written 064 123 4567 at home, with a three-digit prefix from 060 to 069 and then six or seven digits. From abroad the leading 0 goes, giving +381 64 123 4567. Landlines use area codes instead, such as 011 for Belgrade and 021 for Novi Sad, and most services will not send a text to them.
The prefix once showed the network. 064 and 065 started on mts, 062 and 063 on Yettel, and 060 and 061 on A1. Number portability means a prefix now shows only where the number began, and any of them reads as Serbian mobile to a service looking it up.
Viber first, then everything else
Viber is the messenger many people in Serbia and the wider Balkans open first, alongside WhatsApp. A business that talks to Serbian customers usually wants its Viber account on a +381 number, since that is the number customers will save. Viber sends its activation code to the number, so a rented one handles the setup.
Delivery apps such as Wolt, which runs in Belgrade and other Serbian cities, confirm accounts with a local mobile too. Developers use Serbian numbers to test how a sign-up flow reads in Serbian, in both Cyrillic and Latin script.
Neighbouring countries and where a number stops
A Serbian number does not stand in for the countries around it. A service local to Hungary or Bulgaria checks for +36 or +359, and a Hungarian or Bulgarian number is the one to pick there.
Banks and payment services in Serbia confirm who you are with an ID check, which a phone number does not replace. A rented number is for apps and marketplaces. If the code does not arrive in the window, the activation cancels and the price returns to your balance.
Do I keep the 0 after +381?
No. 064 123 4567 becomes +381 64 123 4567. In a Serbian form that expects the 0, keep it and leave out +381.
Which networks are the numbers on?
Real Serbian mobile ranges belonging to mts, Yettel and A1. Services see an ordinary Serbian mobile.
Can I set up Viber on a Serbian number?
Yes. Viber sends its activation code to the number, and the rented number receives it. Turn on chat backup afterwards, because moving to a new phone asks for a fresh code.
What if no code arrives?
The activation cancels itself when the window ends and the full price returns to your balance.
